Caterpillar February sales up 59%

Caterpillar says February was another strong month for sales of its mining and construction equipment, and global sales grew 59 percent over last year.

Oil prices jump 4% amid unrest in Libya

Oil prices surged more than 4 percent early Monday as anti-government protests in the Middle East and Africa intensified, raising worries about possible supply disruptions.

Crude oil for April delivery gained $3.40, or 3.8 percent, to $93.11 a barrel after earlier jumping as high as $93.75. Oil prices have been trading in a range between $88 and $94 a barrel since the start of the year. Get the full story »

Caterpillar retail sales up 48% in last 3 months

Caterpillar Inc. said retail sales of its heavy machinery rose 48 percent in the three months ended Oct. 10, a slightly slower rate of growth than the 53 percent increase reported in the three months ended in September.

The world’s largest maker of heavy equipment said retail sales were up most sharply in Latin America, where they rose 59 percent. The U.S. company saw the slowest growth in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, where sales were up 40 percent.

Huron acquires London’s Trilantic International

Huron Consulting Group expanded its legal consulting unit in Europe and the Middle East with the acquisition of London-based Trilantic International Ltd. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Get the full story »
