Wisconsin firm plans aluminum plant in Illinois

Gov. Pat Quinn says the American Aluminum Extrusion Co., an aluminum extruder and fabricator based in Beloit, Wis., is investing $7.5 million to open a plant in the Winnebago County town of Roscoe. Quinn says the plant is expected to employ 130 people. Get the full story »

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s administration thinks there’s business to be had — from Illinois.

The governor is launching an ad campaign encouraging businesses in Illinois to relocate to the Garden State. An official announcement from the Christie administration is planned for Tuesday, when ads will start appearing in newspapers and on radio stations in major Illinois cities like Chicago and Springfield. Motorola Mobility not moving HQ to Chicago

From Crain’s Chicago Business | Motorola Mobility, Motorola’s cell phone unit, reportedly has ruled out moving its headquarters to downtown Chicago. The company, which will split from the emergency-radio business Jan. 4, would keep its headquarters at its existing campus in Libertyville if it chooses to stay in Illinois, says a person familiar with the search. Playboy puts Chicago HQ up for sublease

Playboy Enterprises Inc. is looking to sublease its headquarters space at 680 N. Lake Shore Drive.

The company confirmed this morning that it hired real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield to sublease the 15th and 16th floors of the building because the space “is too big for us,” said spokeswoman Martha Lindeman.

Lindeman said the company has not started looking for a new home to relocate its 245 full-time employees. “We haven’t made any plans at all,” she said. Get the full story »

State incentives help Groupon add 250 jobs in Ill.

Groupon will receive $3.5 million in tax breaks and job training assistance in a state incentive package aimed at helping the fast-growing company create 250 jobs in Chicago rather than expand in other states.

The company allows nearly 25 million consumers to get discounts through group buying power over the internet. Groupon has grown from seven employees to 900 in Chicago over two years, with 2,500 workers worldwide. Get the full story »

Coyote Logistics to move to Chicago

From the Chicago Sun-Times | Coyote Logistics LLC, a Lake Forest-based logistics company employing 140 people, said it will relocate to Chicago’s North Side by mid-2011. The company said it also plans to add 160 jobs at its new, larger location within two years. Get the full story>>

Aon to cut up to 1,800; HQ being ‘worked out’

Aon Corp., a Chicago-based insurance brokerage and consulting firm, said it will cut 1,500 to 1,800 jobs globally over the next three years as part of its merger with Lincolnshire-based personnel consulting company Hewitt Associates.

It also said the headquarters decision for Aon Hewitt — the consulting arm — is “being worked out.” Aon is currently headquartered in one of the tallest buildings in Chicago.

The restructuring of the combined workforce and of the merged firm’s real estate holdings will cost $325 million, of which $180 million will be due to employee severance costs. Get the full story »

Gardner Denver moving HQ to Philadelphia

Machinery maker Gardner Denver Inc. on Wednesday said it will move its headquarters to the Philadelphia area to make the company easier for international customers to reach. Gardner Denver did not specify where in the region it will be headquartered, or when the move might take place. A representative could not be immediately reached for further details. Navistar confirms that it will move HQ to Lisle

Navistar representatives, along with roughly a dozen Illinois officials, announced plans this morning to move the manufacturing company’s headquarters to Lisle, retaining thousands of jobs in DuPage County.

“I’ve got one thing to say. Illinois is Navistar country,” said Gov Pat Quinn. “We believe in Navistar.”

Harley-Davidson threatens to leave Wisconsin

It’s the roar that made Milwaukee famous — the distinctive throaty rumble of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. But that much-loved racket could be rumbling away to another state if the company cannot bring down its labor costs.
