Consumer Reports: AT&T U-verse, Verizon FiOS tops

A new Consumer Reports survey rates AT&T U-verse and Verizon FiOS as the top choices for customers looking to buy bundled telecom services.

Second place went to cable solutions offered by Cox Cable, Cablevision or Bright House Networks if they are available (most markets offer only one cable offering). The magazine said satellite providers DirectTV and DISH Network received “above-average” scores in the survey of 70,000 Consumer Reports readers.

Bundled telecom packages offer phone, TV and Internet for one price. Verizon and AT&T offer discounts for consumers who buy the services this way. But Consumer Reports had other cost savings tips, like switching to digital VoIP service instead of traditional dial-up phone service.

The magazine also recommends cutting premium TV channels if you aren’t using them and avoiding paying up for so-called “blazing speed” Internet connections since, it said, regular connections are fast enough for most users.

There’s so much bad TV out there, especially when you’re stuck to the channels the Cable co’s offer. You can get a lot more stations online and not pay the high cable fees. I use the LiveTVworldwide website for this
