Chicago-based Sittercity.com, a Web site that matches customers with babysitters and other caregivers, has acquired one of its competitors.

Financial terms of the deal with Virginia-based Sitters.com were not disclosed.

Sittercity said Sitters.com is the third-largest in-home care site and will boost Sittercity’s user database from its current 2 million people. In addition to babysitters, Sittercity also helps its members find pet sitters, elderly caregivers, housekeepers and tutors.

Mike Cravens, founder of Sitters.com, will become a stockholder in Sittercity and serve as a strategic adviser.

Sittercity spokeswoman Mary Schwartz said Cravens plans to hire his six Sitters.com employees for his new venture, Lessonville.com, which will offer online and in-person lessons in a variety of hobbies and interests. The Lessonville site says it is “coming soon” and asks visitors to enter their e-mail addresses to be invited to its upcoming beta release.
