From the Times of Northwest Indiana | European rail operators are
ready to offer technology and experience to help the Midwest develop
high-speed rail, a representative from French national rail operator
SNCF said Thursday at the Golden Spike seminar at Valparaiso University.
SNCF
presented a plan for creating a $68.5 billion high-speed rail system in
the Midwest with Chicago as its hub, saying it would be a catalyst for
thousands of jobs.

Associated Press | The union representing mechanics and other ground workers at American Airlines is asking federal officials to let them take a big step closer toward a possible strike against the nation’s second-largest carrier.
The Transport Workers Union said Thursday they asked federal mediators to declare a deadlock in their negotiations over a new contract.

Dow Jones Newswires | Navistar International Corp. plans to
offer a new line of commercial trucks aimed at penetrating the
lighter-weight end of the medium-duty truck market.
Navistar said the new line is part of broader strategy to emphasize
smaller, lighter vehicles across all its truck and bus lines in North
America. Chairman and Chief Executive Dan Ustian said truck users are
increasingly looking for smaller trucks with more fuel-efficient
engines.

Associated Press | Downer’s Grove-based logistics company and trucking operator Hub Group Inc. said its board approved the repurchase of up to $30 million in common stock.
The company intends to hold the repurchased shares for future use. Hub shares rose 15 cents to close at $26.26.

By Julie Johnsson | Five U.S. carriers are jockeying to be the first to enter Haneda
Airport, Tokyo’s equivalent to Midway Airport, which is being opened to
American airlines for the first time since 1978.
American, Continental, Delta, Hawaiian and United Airlines all applied
Tuesday for the four new flights to Haneda that the Japanese government
is making available as a result of a proposed aviation treaty between
the U.S. and Japan.
