A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction that prohibits Motorola Solutions Inc. from transferring confidential information by Chinese company Huawei Technologies to Nokia Siemens Networks, which is planning to buy Motorola’s networks business in a $1.2 billion transaction.
Huawei sued Motorola last month, arguing that the deal with NSN would represent a misappropriation of Huawei trade secrets. Motorola and Huawei have commercial agreements dating back a decade, during which Motorola bought Huawei network technologies and resold the equipment under its own brand. Get the full story »

Verizon Wireless said Tuesday it spent more than $179.7 million on its Illinois network last year, more than the roughly $166 million investment the carrier made in the state in 2009.
In 2010, Verizon built 57 new cell sites and installed equipment at more than 560 cell sites in the state to boost capacity. The company said it also put in new equipment for the launch of its 4G network, which went live in Chicago in December as part of a broader launch in 38 U.S. cities. Get the full story »

Comcast surpassed analysts’ estimates for its earnings in the final quarter of 2010 — its final period before adding NBC Universal to its mix. The company’s operating income grew rose 10.8 percent for the quarter. Revenue was up 7.2 percent to $9.72 billion.
Now the work begins. Despite all of the talk about the importance of fixing the ailing NBC broadcast network or the glamour of entering the movie business, Roberts said the first priority of his lieutenant, NBC Universal Chief Executive Steve Burke, would be “to maintain the strong momentum and focus of the cable channels.”

Strong spending by governments to improve public safety and retailers helped Motorola Solutions Inc., report strong gains in fourth-quarter earnings and revenues.
The report did little for the company’s share price, however, because of the Schaumburg-based company’s weaker first-quarter earnings guidance. Shares of Motorola Solutions, formerly the Enterprise Mobility Solutions segment of Motorola Inc. before it split earlier this month, closed at $38.58 Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange, down 1.68 percent. Shares in Motorola Mobility Holdings were down more than 11 percent, to $30.67, Thursday, a day after strong smart phone launches boosted the handset maker’s results in the fourth quarter.
Bloomberg reported Thursday that the imminent arrival of Apple Inc.’s iPhone at Verizon Wireless had slowed sales at Motorola’s biggest carrier.
To blunt the effect, Bloomberg reported, Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Jha said the company is introducing new phones including the Atrix, trying to sell more handsets through other U.S. carriers and bulk up sales in China and Latin America.
