RR Donnelley Q4 beats Street on high volumes

Printing services firm RR Donnelley & Sons posted better-than-expected quarterly profit as it reported an increase in volumes of logistics services and printing, but continued to struggle with pricing pressure and acquisition-related costs.

The company posted a fourth-quarter net income of $27 million, or 13 cents a share, attributable to common shareholders, compared with a net loss of $79.5 million, or 39 cents a share a year ago. Get the full story »

InnerWorkings to buy Chilean company

Chicago-based InnerWorkings Inc. said it has acquired a print management firm in Chile as its seeks to expand in Latin America.

Terms of the acquisition of CPRO Services Ltd. were not announced.

CPRO Services had revenues of $22 million in 2009 and employs about 50 people, InnerWorkings said. CPRO’s clients include Unilever, Nestle and LAN Airlines. Get the full story »

Suburban man sentenced in $28M Ponzi scheme

A judge has sentenced the owner of a suburban Chicago printer repair company to 10 years in federal prison in a $28 million Ponzi scheme.

In a Monday statement, the U.S. attorney’s office said Matthew Scott was also ordered to pay nearly $5 million in restitution. Prosecutors accused the owner of Northlake-based Gelsco of swindling around 75 people. Some lost their life savings.

Zebra Technologies beats in 2Q

Specialty business printers maker Zebra Technologies Corp. posted second-quarter results above Wall Street view, driven by stronger-than-expected growth across all regions, and forecast third quarter largely above estimates. For the third quarter, the company expects to earn 36 cents to 43 cents per share, on revenue of $230 million to $244 million. Get the full story »
