Pols want answers on Heparin contamination

Lawmakers scolded the FDA for still not knowing what or who was behind the contamination of the Baxter International’s blood-thinning drug Heparin, nearly three years after launching its investigation.

“It has been almost three years since the the FDA linked deaths and serious allergic reactions of patients to supplies of Heparin that came from China,“ Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), wrote in a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg Wednesday. Goose Island outsources Honker’s, India Pale Ale

Chicago-based Goose Island Beer Co. will begin shipping New Hampshire-made Goose Island India Pale Ale this week to serve growing markets on the East Coast.

The company also is testing Honker’s Ale there. It also likely will be made at the New Hampshire facility for the East Coast  by spring.

Girl Scouts uniforms to keep Made in USA label

The Girl Scouts of the USA announced Monday its uniforms will continue to be made in America following a public uproar over reports it was considering bids from overseas manufacturers.

The owners of a family run Passaic, N.J., factory that has been the main supplier of Girl Scout uniforms and sashes for years were told recently that the organization would be seeking bids for the job — including from a company in China. Get the full story »

Layoffs loom at Redbox

employees at its Downers Grove call center as the company shifts those
operations to an outside provider with operations in Texas and Canada.

“After considering a number of options, it was determined that using a
third party to manage our customer service operations was the best
business decision for the company,” Redbox, which is a unit of Coinstar
Inc., said in a statement. “This decision did not come easily, but it
was ultimately the best option for achieving the level of service we
need to provide our customers.”
