Judge orders Freed to turn over Block 37 to banks

Joseph Freed and Associates will no longer own the star-crossed Block 37 mall in the heart of downtown Chicago, a Cook County Circuit Court ruled Friday, bringing to close a year-long effort by banks to foreclose on the troubled property.

The Chicago-based developer has been ordered to turn over ownership of the high-profile shopping center to a group of banks led by Bank of America on Dec. 17, after documents related to the sale of the property are presented to the court and approved, according to Freed spokeswoman Jayne Thompson. Citizens Bank & Trust execs sued over non-payment

The brothers who helped run failed Citizens Bank & Trust Co. of Chicago are being sued in Cook County Circuit Court over an alleged non-payment of almost $1.6 million.

Delta Trading Co. of Chicago is suing Robert and George Michael for breach of contract.

It said that in January 2007, the brothers borrowed nearly $1.6 million from Marshall & Ilsley Bank. In June 2010, M&I assigned its rights under the note to Delta. Get the full story »

McDonald’s sued over hot chocolate spill

A Northlake woman sued McDonald’s in Cook County Circuit Court alleging that her daughter was seriously burned in 2009 when a hot chocolate she ordered from the fast-food giant spilled and seriously burned her leg.

Vicki LaRocco bought the hot chocolate for her daughter on April 28, 2009, at a McDonald’s drive-through window in Schiller Park, according to the lawsuit. She said the lid of the cup was improperly secured, however, and the beverage spilled onto LaRocco’s daughter, causing “severe pain and scarring,” the suit states. Get the full story>>

Illinois AG files fraud suit against bus company

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed suit Wednesday against a Melrose Park bus company, saying it defrauded a group of hearing-impaired students and their families.

The suit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, claims Sleepless in the City Bus Service Inc., took $1,750 from the Illinois Service Resource Center, then failed to provide transportation for 55 students and their families on April 27, 2009. Get the full story »
