Ex-CBOT chief joins board of NYSE’s clearinghouse
Bernard Dan, who headed the Chicago Board of Trade until its 2007 takeover by CME Group Inc., will help guide NYSE Euronext’s co-owned clearinghouse as it takes on the CME later this month.
Dan, currently president of Chicago-based trading firm Sun Holdings LLC, joined the board of New York Portfolio Clearing as an independent director, the clearinghouse said Wednesday. Get the full story »
Profit-taking weighs on U.S. grain markets
U.S. soybean futures ended lower on Wednesday in a profit-taking setback, retreating from more-than-two-year highs, while a weaker dollar and persistent supply worries continued to underpin prices and helped lift corn and wheat.
The losses in Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures marked the first time in eight sessions that the market lost ground. Soybeans have been rallying on concerns over hot and dry weather in major exporter Argentina. Corn futures also are garnering fundamental support from the detrimental crop weather there. Rogers index to cut CBOT wheat holdings
The Rogers International Commodity Index will cut its Chicago Board of Trade wheat holdings while boosting its investment in rice in January.
Rogers will reduce the weight of CBOT wheat in its index to 4.75 percent from 6 percent, it said in a statement released on Monday morning. Its rice weighting will rise to 0.75 percent from 0.50 percent. Get the full story »

CFTC settles charges against Naperville trader
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission said Monday it has settled fraud and unauthorized trading charges against a Naperville floor trader at the Chicago Board of Trade whose activities generated a $4 million loss.
The CFTC order permanently bans John Lee Neuman from trading. He had registered with the CFTC as a floor broker from May 1993 until February 2008, and became a local in the CBOT corn options pit in September 1997. Get the full story »
Wheat prices hit CBOT limits, at 2-year high
Wheat futures prices soared Thursday to their highest levels in two years after Russia said it would ban grain exports due to a severe drought, a move that heightens concerns about global supplies of the grain and the possible impact on food prices.
September wheat futures at the Chicago board of trade were up the exchange-imposed daily limit of 60 cents at $7.85 3/4 a bushel in late trading, an 8.3 percent rise and the highest level since Aug. 29, 2008.
