Toyota recalling 1.7 million more vehicles

Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday that it will recall 1.705 million vehicles worldwide due to faulty parts including defective fuel devices, giving the company’s once-prestigious reputation for quality another black eye.

The Japanese auto maker said that 1.28 million vehicles in Japan and a combined 421,000 vehicles in North America, Europe and other markets, including nearly 245,000 Lexus sedans sold in the U.S. are subject to recall. Get the full story »

Recalls squeeze Johnson & Johnson in 4Q

Johnson & Johnson’s revenue has slumped for a second straight year, prompting its chief executive to make an extraordinary pitch to soothe investors and defend the company’s handling of 17 costly recalls.

Toyota tops ‘10 global auto sales despite recalls

Toyota sold 8.42 million vehicles globally in 2010, remaining the world’s top automaker for the third year straight despite recall woes in the key North American market.

General Motors also released a new tally Monday for its global 2010 sales, at 8.39 million vehicles, slightly fewer than Toyota’s number, but a dramatic 12 percent rebound from 7.48 million vehicles the year before. Get the full story »

Saab recalls 9-3 sedan for fuel pump problem

Saab is recalling 4,400 passenger cars to fix fuel pumps that could seize and cause the engine to stall.

Saab said the recall affects certain 2010 and 2011 9-3 sedans built from June through October of 2010. The company says some of the fuel pumps may have had components with incorrect specifications. Get the full story »

GM expands recall of trucks for rear axle problem

General Motors is expanding a  recall of some 2011 trucks and SUVs to fix a problem that could cause the vehicles’ rear axles to lock.

The recall, originally announced in December, now covers 26,751 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs. The models affected are: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe; and GMC Canyon, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL. J&J recalls more Tylenol, other medications

Johnson & Johnson  recalled nearly 47 million units of over-the-counter medicines Friday, the latest in a string of quality-related product recalls.

J&J said the latest recall resulted from a thorough examination of  manufacturing records that the company had undertaken in the wake of earlier recalls. J&J plans to continue reviewing practices at additional plants and signaled further recalls could result. Get the full story »

Bristol-Myers blood-pressure drug under 2nd recall

Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and Sanofi-Aventis SA have recalled about 64 million tablets of hypertension drug Avalide because a manufacturing problem could affect the drug’s efficacy.

It is the second significant recall of Avalide in recent months. In September, Bristol and Sanofi recalled about 60 million tablets. Get the full story »

Chrysler recalling trucks and SUVs

Chrysler is recalling nearly 150,000 trucks and SUVs to address several problems, including steering, air bag issues and the potential for trucks to stall.

Ford recalls F-series pickups, Edge, Lincoln MKX

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 14,737 new vehicles including its biggest seller, the F-series pickup truck, due to the chance than an electrical short could cause a fire, U.S. federal regulators said on Thursday.

Ford will inform owners of its F-series pickups, small sports utility vehicles Edge and Lincoln MKX of the potential problem by Jan. 10, according to a filing with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

There was no mention in the filing of injuries, crashes or fires resulting from the issue. Get the full story »

Honda recalling snowblowers that leak fuel

American Honda Motor Co. is recalling about 18,500 snowblowers that might be dripping or seeping fuel, which can cause a fire. Though no fires have been reported, Honda has received 90 reports of fuel dripping or seeping from the machine’s fuel tank joint and o-ring. Get the full story »

Federal-Mogul recall affects 1995-2006 Chryslers

Federal-Mogul Corp. is recalling 22,689 replacement control arm assemblies in certain older model Chrysler vehicles after it found a fault that could cause vehicles to crash.

The Michigan-based auto parts supplier said a part of the assembly, a ball stud, could wear through the assembly housing, causing the driver to lose steering control, according to a  notice filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Get the full story »
