Privately-held Toys R Us has agreed to pay a $1.3 million penalty for violating a 1998 order that barred it from pushing suppliers to refuse to sell to competitors or from urging limits to those sales, the Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday.
The FTC said in a complaint that Toys R Us subsidiary Babies R Us had asked suppliers what they were charging discounters and complained to them about discounts that other retailers were giving consumers, the FTC said. Get the full story »

Toys “R” Us Inc.’s fiscal fourth-quarter profit slid 15 percent due to a higher income-tax expense, which offset the toy retailer’s improved sales and margins.

Online shoppers turned out in force on Cyber Monday — the day after a strong holiday shopping weekend — with a retail group predicting a 10 percent increase over last year.
Merchant Web sites drew 1,333,336 global page visits per minute during the noon ET hour, according to e-commerce tracking company Akamai. While that was a solid number, it was actually a little below the noontime peak of 1,337,601 page visits per minute globally three days earlier, on Black Friday, which is supposed to be the big day for traditional stores.

U.S. retailer Toys R Us, which has filed for an initial public offering, said it plans to open about 600 temporary stores in malls and shopping centers nationwide, doubling the number of store locations for the holiday season.
The world’s largest dedicated toy retailer, which currently has 587 full-size Toys“R”Us stores in the United States, said the Toys“R”Us Express store openings will create about 10,000 jobs. Get the full story »
