U.S. retailer Sears Holdings Corp. plans to launch 85 toy shops in select U.S. markets next month as it looks for a bigger bite of the holiday sales pie, a senior executive said.

Sears Holdings Corp. hired Razorfish executive David Friedman to take the retailer’s top marketing post, replacing Richard Gerstein, who resigned in May.
Friedman, 46, begins his job as senior vice president and president of Sears’ marketing business unit on Sept. 13.
He was most recently president of the Americas at Razorfish in Chicago, a digital marketing company, where he was head of the firm’s retail and consumer goods practice. Before that, Friedman spent 10 years with Accenture, formerly Andersen Consulting, as an associate partner working with retail and consumer products companies. Get the full story »

Retailer Sears Canada said on Tuesday its quarterly profit dropped as weaker consumer confidence weighed on sales.
For the second quarter ended July 31, net income fell to C$31.9 million, 29 Canadian cents a share. That compares with C$49.1 million, or 45 Canadian cents, for the same quarter a year earlier. Get the full story »

Sears Holdings Corp. said it signed a long-term lease with fast-fashion apparel chain Forever 21 to occupy about 43,000 square feet of a Sears department store in an upscale mall, located in Costa Mesa, Calif.
