Judge: Motorola can’t transfer Huawei technology
A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction that prohibits Motorola Solutions Inc. from transferring confidential information by Chinese company Huawei Technologies to Nokia Siemens Networks, which is planning to buy Motorola’s networks business in a $1.2 billion transaction.
Huawei sued Motorola last month, arguing that the deal with NSN would represent a misappropriation of Huawei trade secrets. Motorola Solutions lays off 175 from WiMax unit
Motorola Solutions has laid off 175 employees in its networks business, which is slated to be sold to Nokia Siemens Networks in a $1.2 billion deal.
Motorola Solutions spokeswoman Tama McWhinney said the cuts took place in January and affected workers in Arlington Heights, as well as Fort Worth, Texas, and Tempe, Ariz. The company maintains a presence in all three cities. Get the full story »

Nokia Siemens deal for Motorola business delayed
Nokia Siemens Networks’ acquisition of Motorola Inc.’s network infrastructure business has been pushed to the first quarter of 2011 because the deal still needs regulatory approval in China.
The $1.2 billion transaction between Schaumburg-based Motorola and Nokia Siemens Networks was announced in July and expected to close by the end of 2010. ITT Corp. has settled its patent dispute with Motorola Inc., after claiming the mobile-phone maker incorporated global positioning systems in its devices that infringed ITT rights. Nokia reportedly looking at Motorola telecom
Nokia Siemens Networks is in talks to buy the telecom-equipment arm of Motorola Inc., people familiar with the matter said, a deal that would hasten the dismantling of the U.S. technology company.

Samsung smartphone coming to all major carriers
In the shadow of the latest blockbuster Apple Inc. iPhone launch, Samsung Electronics Co. has quietly positioned its own marquee smartphone with all of the national carriers in an attempt to regain its position with high-end cellphones.
Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA said Monday that they would be carrying a version of Samsung’s Galaxy S.
