Judge: Motorola can’t transfer Huawei technology

A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction that prohibits Motorola Solutions Inc. from transferring confidential information by Chinese company Huawei Technologies to Nokia Siemens Networks, which is planning to buy Motorola’s networks business in a $1.2 billion transaction.

Huawei sued Motorola last month, arguing that the deal with NSN would represent a misappropriation of Huawei trade secrets. Motorola and Huawei have commercial agreements dating back a decade, during which Motorola bought Huawei network technologies and resold the equipment under its own brand. Get the full story »

Motorola Solutions lays off 175 from WiMax unit

Motorola Solutions has laid off 175 employees in its networks business, which is slated to be sold to Nokia Siemens Networks in a $1.2 billion deal.

Motorola Solutions spokeswoman Tama McWhinney said the cuts took place in January and affected workers in Arlington Heights, as well as Fort Worth, Texas, and Tempe, Ariz. The company maintains a presence in all three cities. Get the full story »

Judge: Motorola can’t transfer Huawei technology

An Illinois judge has dealt a setback to Motorola in a legal dispute with Chinese company Huawei Technologies over Motorola’s planned sale of its networks business.

Huawei sued Monday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, claiming that the sale of the networks business to Nokia Siemens Networks would represent a misappropriation of trade secrets and breach of contract between Motorola and Huawei. Get the full story »

Huawei sues Motorola over technology transfer

Chinese telecommunications company Huawei Technologies Co. sued Motorola and Nokia Siemens Networks Monday, seeking to stop the planned $1.2 billion sale of Motorola’s networks business to the European company.

Nokia Siemens deal for Motorola business delayed

Nokia Siemens Networks’ acquisition of Motorola Inc.’s network infrastructure business has been pushed to the first quarter of 2011 because the deal still needs regulatory approval in China.

The $1.2 billion transaction between Schaumburg-based Motorola and Nokia Siemens Networks was announced in July and expected to close by the end of 2010. However, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s Anti-Monopoly Bureau has yet to approve it. Motorola strikes $1.2B deal with Nokia Siemens

Motorola Inc. is selling its wireless networks unit to Nokia Siemens Networks for $1.2 billion, a move that will accelerate the Schaumburg-based company’s planned break-up into separate businesses.

The deal, expected to close at the end of 2010, will boost Nokia Siemen’s standing in key markets such as the U.S. and Japan, while allowing Motorola to devote more attention to the enterprise mobility unit that makes communications equipment for public safety agencies and industrial companies. Motorola settles ITT GPS patent suit

ITT Corp. has settled its patent dispute with Motorola Inc., after claiming the mobile-phone maker incorporated global positioning systems in its devices that infringed ITT rights.  The manufacturing conglomerate said it was pleased with the outcome, although details of the settlement weren’t disclosed except to specify that it resolved all issues between the two over the claim. Motorola shares up on Nokia Siemens interest

Motorola shares surged nearly 4 percent this morning on speculation the company may be selling its networks equipment unit to competitor Nokia Siemens.

Nokia reportedly looking at Motorola telecom

Nokia Siemens Networks is in talks to buy the telecom-equipment arm of Motorola Inc., people familiar with the matter said, a deal that would hasten the dismantling of the U.S. technology company.

The two companies are discussing terms, and a deal could be worth $1.1 billion to $1.3 billion, one of the people said. Samsung smartphone coming to all major carriers

In the shadow of the latest blockbuster Apple Inc.   iPhone launch, Samsung Electronics Co.  has quietly positioned its own marquee smartphone with all of the national carriers in an attempt to regain its position with high-end cellphones.

Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel Corp.  and T-Mobile USA said  Monday that they would be carrying a version of Samsung’s Galaxy S.  AT&T Inc.  previously said it would sell a version of the device  later this year. Of all the carriers, only T-Mobile would commit to a firm launch date of July 21. Get the full story »
