The Securities and Exchange Commission has asked a federal court judge to sign off on a consent order that would settle a years-long accounting fraud scandal that led to Warrenville-based Navistar’s delisting on the New York Stock Exchange in 2007.
The settlement agreement, first announced last October, was opened to the public for the first time Thursday, and names five former and current Navistar employees who allegedly engaged in fraudulent and improper accounting practices that led the company to overstate its pre-tax income by approximately $137 million from 2001 to 2005. The company manufactures and markets commercial trucks, school buses, diesel engines and related parts. Get the full story »

Navistar International filed a WARN notice anticipating mass layoffs in Springfield, Ohio as its master contract with the United Auto Workers is set to expire. The WARN notice filed Monday, Aug. 2, with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services states up to 370 workers may be laid off on or about Oct. 4.

The new head of the United Auto Workers Wednesday provided an early glimpse of the campaign he plans to wage to unionize the U.S. plants of Asian automakers like Toyota Motor Corp. In an interview with Reuters, Bob King, who vowed to “pound Toyota” when he was elected UAW president last week, said theeffort will involve a big public relations component and not rely solely on the old-fashioned organizing pushes that have proved so unsuccessful with the transplants in the past. The newly elected president of the United Auto Workers Friday said the union was “headed for a big fight” with truck maker Navistar International Corp over the terms of a new labor contract.
“We will get behind workers in the fight coming up with Navistar,” UAW President Bob King said in his keynote speech to about 1,100 delegates at a union convention in Detroit.

Dow Jones Newswires | U.S. truck maker Navistar International Corp. said Thursday it will deliver its first electric truck to FedEx Corp. by the end of the year, thanks, in part, to stimulus funding provided last year by the government.
Navistar’s eStar model is the first medium-duty commercial vehicle to receive the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s clean-fuel fleet vehicle certification and the California Air Resources Board’s certification as a zero-emission vehicle, the company said.
