Users complain iPhone clock bungles time change

From the Associated Press | Users of Apple’s iPhone peppered Twitter and blogs with complaints that their phones bungled the one-hour “spring forward” to daylight savings time that went into effect overnight Saturday.

Some users’ phones fell back one hour instead of springing forward, making the time displayed on the iPhone two hours off. This is just the latest clock woe for Apple’s chic iPhone. A clock glitch prevented alarms from sounding on New Year’s Day, causing slumbering revelers to oversleep. The devices also struggled to adjust to the end of daylight savings time back in November. Apple iPad 2 sells out in first weekend

Apple Inc.’s new iPad 2 flew off of the shelves on its first weekend. The company’s stores in major U.S. cities had sold out of the updated tablet device within hours of its introduction at 5 p.m. local time Friday, according to surveys by analysts. On Sunday, Apple’s online store was showing a shipping delay of three to four weeks for all of the versions of the iPad 2.

Analysts put sales of the new iPad in the range of 400,000 to 600,000 units during its first three days on the market, about the same range as the original model sold its first week. Get the full story »

Apple to start iPad 2 sales online in wee hours

Apple Inc. will kick off online sales of its new iPad in the early hours Friday before its evening store launch of the tablet computer.

Android climbs to top of smart phone heap

Android is now the most-used smart phone operating system in the United States — a stunning race to the top from a platform that didn’t exist 25 months ago.

Nearly one third, or 31.2 percent, of U.S. smart phones ran Google’s Android OS in January, according to a study released Monday by comScore. That outpaced the 30.4 percent of American smart phone owners who use BlackBerry devices, which are made by Research in Motion. Get the full story »

iPad 2 dents Motorola Mobility stock price

Shares of Motorola Mobility  slumped Thursday as Apple Inc.’s  new iPad won rave reviews.

Motorola Mobility shares were recently down 5.2 percent, at $26.90.

Antenna problem fixed on Verizon iPhones

Gadget analysis group AnandTech, which was the first to diagnose the iPhone 4 antenna issue, ran a thorough test of the new Verizon iPhone 4 and found that the “death grip“ problem has been mitigated.

“Apple fixed the problem,“ said Brian Klug, author of AnandTech’s report. “You can use the Verizon Wireless iPhone with no case without any concern for losing signal because of how it’s held.“ Get the full story »

No succession plan demand from Apple investors

Apple shareholders rejected demands that the company disclose a succession plan for ailing chief Steve Jobs but approved a proposal giving them a bigger say in appointing directors.

At Apple’s annual meeting Wednesday, about 74 percent of votes cast favored a proposal by Calpers that unopposed candidates for the company’s board receive a majority of votes to win election, according to the fund. Get the full story »

Apple iPad launch due on March 2

Apple is expected to launch its new iPad on March 2, contrary to speculation of a delay of the latest version of the popular tablet computer.

One person familiar with the matter said recent speculation about a delay until June was “simply not true” as Apple is planning a launch in the same seasonal schedule as the first iPad, which went on sale in April 2010.

Apple will host an event on Mar. 2, where the company is expected to take the wraps off the newest iPad model, an individual with knowledge of the situation said. Apple declined to comment. Get the full story »

Apple rolls out digital subscription service

Apple is launching a long-awaited subscription service for magazines, newspapers, videos and music bought through its iTunes App Store.

The plan calls for publishers to set the price and length of subscription, marking a break from the previous practice of “newsstand sales” under which each issue of a magazine, for instance, would be bought separately. Get the full story »

HP to pit ‘TouchPad’ against iPad this summer

Hewlett-Packard Co. unveiled its entrant in the tablet race, announcing a touchscreen device for summer release called the TouchPad to try to steal momentum from Apple Inc’s popular iPad.
