Facebook Inc. opened an office in Hong Kong Tuesday as part of its plan to expand operations in Asia, the South China Morning Post reported Wednesday, citing the company’s executives.
The move came after Facebook opened offices in India in March and Singapore in April, the newspaper reported.
The paper said former Google Inc. executive Jayne Leung will head the new office, which also will serve the Taiwanese market, and report to Singapore-based Stephen Dolan, the commercial director for Asia.
It also cited Blake Chandlee, Facebook’s vice president and commercial director, as saying the Asian market is a critical part of the company’s future. But Chandlee declined to comment about Facebook’s plans to expand into mainland China, where the social networking site is banned, the paper said.
