Chicago a top-5 Valentine’s Day destination?

After shoveling 20 inches of snow last week, Chicagoans are dreaming of palm trees. But apparently the people with the palm trees are dreaming of…Chicago?

That’s right, The Windy City moved up Orbitz Worldwide’s list of top Valentine’s Day destinations this year to number five. Heck, Chicago even beat bookings to Oahu and Miami.

Last year Chicago was number eight.

The travel booking site also surveyed would-be Valentines to find out what their ideal retreat would look like. Fifty-five percent said they’d like to spend the day in a bungalow on a remote beach, 17 percent opted for wine country in a B&B, 14 percent were dreaming of an upscale boutique hotel in the city and 5 percent said they hoped for a ski chalet in the mountains.

But if you really want to wow your Valentine this year, Orbitz hopes you’ll break out your credit card: Nearly half of those surveyed said a travel retreat with their sweetheart would be their favorite way to celebrate, but 85 percent said they’d never given or received a trip for Valentine’s Day.

Most popularly booked Valentine’s destinations:
1. Las Vegas
2. Orlando
3. Cancun
4. New York
5. Chicago
6. Oahu
7. New Orleans
8. Miami
9. Los Angeles/Long Beach
10. San Francisco

I second that comment, DR Culp. This is the most corrupt city in the country. Highest tax rates in the country, and yet somehow we’re still always out of money. It’s not hard to figure out – it’s called stealing! How about some accountability for where the gov’t. spends OUR money. The solution – no surprise – raise taxes more!

I also agree with DR Culp, Chicago would be one of the top 10 cities to leave on Valentines day, not go to.

EXACTLY Vinny, the only problem with that is……Most people that WHINE about this Great city that we live in are from the Burbs. Little whiny cretins out there i tell ya. They get so Teed off because their idea of a great vacation is the Pancake house on Main street and the Motel 6 Off of Main street. I guess we should cut them some slack. NAH,Idiots.

Hey Bob…. This city is in the top 10 tax Friendly cities when all is said and done. Post what you know not what you think you know. You Whiny people get annoying. Good thing 95% of the people we have here are good, hard working people who Love this area and that’s why we are One of the VERY,VERY few Big cities that the Population has increased in the last 10 years. I Guess out in the Boonies you don`t get world papers and cant figure out how to get them on the net huh?
