Kenya granted Anglo-Dutch consumer goods group Unilever approval to buy Sara Lee’s subsidiary in the east African nation, a government notice showed on Friday.

An official at Unilever who declined to be named said the company had bought Sara Lee’s local body care business.

Sara Lee has sold off a number of brands over the last five years as part of a strategic shift from a once-sprawling company that sold everything from hot dogs to underwear to one focused on its core coffee and protein businesses.

On November 17, the European commission approved Unilever’s $1.3 billion purchase of Sara Lee’s body care unit. Sara Lee also said it had received strong interest in the remainder of its household business.

Sara Lee Kenya Ltd engages in the marketing of shoe care products, comprising polishes, cleaners, and wax under the Kiwi brand, and insecticides under the Ridsect brand.
