McDonald’s Corp said global October sales at established restaurants rose 6.5 percent, helped by new beverages like Smoothies, by its low-price Dollar Menu and by restaurant renovations.

The world’s largest hamburger chain said October sales at restaurants open at least 13 months were up 5.6 percent in the United States, up 5.8 percent in Europe and up 5.3 percent in Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa,

Europe is McDonald’s biggest market, accounting for just above 40 percent of revenue. The United States is not far behind with about 35 percent of overall revenue.

The company cited healthy demand in France, the United Kingdom and Russia for the strong performance of its European unit, while the Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa region was boosted by sales growth in Japan, China and Australia.

Systemwide sales, which includes sales at restaurants operated by the company as well as franchisees, rose 7.4 percent, or 7.8 percent in constant currencies, for the month.
