Discount carrier JetBlue Airways Corp. has named to its board Stanley McChrystal, the retired general who lost his job as the top U.S. Afghanistan commander after making inflammatory comments about the Obama administration this year.

The addition of McChrystal brings the number of directors at the New York-based airline to 11, the company said in a federal filing.

President Barack Obama summoned McChrystal from Afghanistan in June, and the general subsequently resigned after Rolling Stone magazine published an article that included remarks from the former commander and his aides disparaging administration officials.

McChrystal is teaching a seminar on leadership and global affairs at Yale University.
