Federal Signal Corp. said Monday that Dennis Martin has been named president and chief executive officer, following the resignation of William H. Osborne.

Martin, 60, was plucked from the Oak Brook company’s board of directors, where he has served since 2008.

“Our board of directors and Bill Osborne agree that, following two years of important progress to improve Federal Signal’s cost structure and position the company for long term growth, the time is right for new leadership to accelerate the company’s strategic and financial goals,” James E. Goodwin, chairman, said in a statement.

Osborne was appointed CEO in 2008.

Martin was CEO of General Binding Corp. from 2001 to 2005 and prior to that was a senior executive at Illinois Tool Works.

Federal Signal manufactures a range of products from sirens for emergency vehicles to street sweepers.
