U.S. drugstore chain Walgreen Co. on Tuesday posted a stronger-than-expected rise in September same-store sales on strong demand in its pharmacy business.
Sales at drugstores open at least a year rose 0.4 percent from September 2009, the company said Tuesday, topping the 1.1 percent decline analysts had expected, according to Thomson Reuters data.
Pharmacy same-store sales increased 0.3 percent, much better than the 1.7 percent decline analysts had expected.
Overall September sales rose 5.3 percent to $5.64 billion.
