By Sandra M. Jones | AllSaints Spitalfields, Britain’s edgy clothing retailer, plans to open
its first Chicago store this fall on North Michigan Avenue.

The merchant — known for decorating its stores with exposed brick
walls, ram skulls and vintage sewing machines — is moving into an
11,000-square-foot space at 700 N. Michigan Ave., the site of the former
Chicago Place mall. It will be between Saks Fifth Avenue and
fast-fashion European retailer Zara, and sell apparel and accessories
for men, women and children.

AllSaints, founded in 1994, began its push into the U.S. Market last summer with a concession stand in Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship in New York. It soon expanded with freestanding stores on Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles in November and on Lincoln Road in Miami in December.

More stores are slated to open this year in New York’s SoHo neighborhood, Boston, San Francisco and Santa Monica, Calif., the company said.

AllSaints said it plans to roll out 30 to 50 stores nationwide in three to five years. It operates 70 standalone stores internationally.
