Wal-Mart planning small store in River North

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is in talks to open a Walmart Express convenience store in River North, according to real estate sources.

The world’s largest retailer is eyeing a location at 225 W. Chicago Ave. at the corner of Franklin Avenue, which formerly housed Pearl, the discount art supply store. Get the full story »

Whole Foods to move Midwest HQ to River North

Whole Foods Market will move its Midwest regional headquarters to 640 N. LaSalle St., taking 36,000 square feet at the seven-story building  on the block bordered by LaSalle, Ontario, Wells and Erie streets, according to leasing agent Jones Lang LaSalle.

The food retailer’s local regional headquarters is at 3241 N. Lincoln Ave., in West Lakeview, where it has 24,000 square feet.

Carson’s, Calvin Klein plan River North pop-up shop

Carson Pirie Scott and Calvin Klein plan to open a pop-up shop in River North on Friday, a first for both companies.

The 1,600 square-foot store, at 116 W. Hubbard St., will remain open for seven days and showcase Calvin Klein’s fall collection of sportswear, dresses, jeans, underwear and accessories. The companies are taking over unfinished retail space on the first floor of Hub 116, a newly constructed office and gallery building. Get the full story »

Hines sells River North tower to KBS Realty

Real estate firm Hines has sold its 60-story building in River North to KBS Realty Advisors LLC , a California-based investment firm.

Terms weren’t disclosed.

Hines, which developed the LEED-certified  building in 2009, said it will continue to manage the property on 300 N. LaSalle St., which is home to various financial firms.

Officials from KBS weren’t immediately available for comment.

Apartment building slated for River North

From Crain’s Chicago Business | AMLI Residential Partners plans to build a 49-story apartment building at Clark and Hubbard Streets in River North. Construction could start next year.
