State Farm retirees lose some medical coverage

Bloomington-based State Farm Insurance Cos. will stop providing supplemental medical coverage for its Medicare-eligible retirees next year in a cost-cutting move.

The company says it will instead help them find supplemental Medicare coverage and provide them with $200 a month to help. About 18,000 of the company’s 27,800 retirees are Medicare-eligible. Get the full story »

Beware Virgo drivers, Allstate data warn

Don’t call them aggressive drivers. Call them “resourceful” drivers, and that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the worst on the road.

Allstate settles with states over claims software

Home and auto insurer Allstate Corp said on Monday it will pay 45 states a $10 million settlement after a review found it was inconsistent in the way it managed and used software to review bodily injury claims.

But the 18-month probe under the auspices of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners also found Allstate had not systemically underpaid claims, a finding that could have had much more serious implications. Get the full story »

Allstate sues Toyota over acceleration claims
