Speedway to buy most Gas City properties

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court has approved the sell of 60 properties by Frankfort-based Gas City Ltd. to various buyers for more than $135 million.

Speedway, Circle K could take over Gas City stores

According to multiple reports citing bankruptcy court records, Speedway LLC and Canada’s Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., the owner of Circle K, will purchase 32 of the 50 stations owned by Frankfort-based Gas City Ltd.

Gas prices expected to fall even more

Gasoline prices have been falling for weeks, and they could go even lower as autumn’s leaves begin to drop.

The national average for a gallon of unleaded regular was $2.681 on Friday, according to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service. That’s 6.6 cents lower than a month ago and 8.5 cents higher than a year ago.

Gasoline prices fall ahead of Labor Day weekend

There is good news at the gas pump, as Americans get ready to fill their cars, RVs and boats for the Labor Day weekend.

The national average price for gasoline has been falling steadily this month, reaching $2.678 for a gallon of unleaded on Monday, according to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service. That’s about 6 cents a gallon less than a month ago and 7 cents less than it was on the Friday before the July Fourth weekend.

Gas prices continue to fall

Gasoline pump prices continued to fall on Monday, offering a bright spot for drivers watching their wallets in the uncertain economy. The average retail price for a gallon of unleaded regular was $2.708 a gallon Monday, according to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped about 4.2 cents in the past week but is around 8.1 cents more than a year ago.

6 gas station owners charged in sales-tax crackdown

Six Illinois gas station owners have been indicted on charges of pocketing sales taxes customers paid when they fueled up.

The fraud investigation has recovered nearly $13 million in unpaid sales taxes, according to the Illinois attorney general’s office and state department of revenue. The indictments were the first in an ongoing probe of businesses that fail to pay taxes, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan said Thursday.
