The FutureGen Alliance announced Monday that it has selected Morgan County to sequester carbon dioxide emissions that would come from a coal-fired power plant 32 miles from the site.
The long-stalled $1.3 billion project, which includes CO2 storage, a visitor center, research and training facilities, is backed by $1 billion in federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and $300 million in private investment. The average price of U.S. gasoline rose above $3 a gallon in the last ast week, reaching its highest level since October 2008, the Energy Department said on Monday.
The national price for regular gasoline increased 7 cents from the previous week to an average of $3.05 per gallon, as rising crude oil prices bolstered fuel costs.
