Lawmakers reach a deal on financial reform
Ending more than two weeks of often-contentious negotiations, House and Senate lawmakers reached agreement early Friday on the most far-reaching rewrite of financial rules since the Great Depression.

Boeing inks pact to sell 50 jetliners to Russia
A Russian state holding company plans to buy 50 Boeing 737 commercial jetliners in a deal worth up to $4 billion, President Barack Obama said on Thursday. State-owned Rostechnologii and Boeing signed a “proposal acceptance” with an option for the sale of 15 additional planes to the Russian national airline Aeroflot, the White House said. Chicago Hartmarx plant may be in jeopardy

Workers at the Des Plaines plant, run by the bankrupt company known for making suits worn by President Barack Obama, are particularly concerned, the report said.

Navistar: Electric truck to FedEx by end of year
Dow Jones Newswires | U.S. truck maker Navistar International Corp. said Thursday it will deliver its first electric truck to FedEx Corp. by the end of the year, thanks, in part, to stimulus funding provided last year by the government.
Navistar’s eStar model is the first medium-duty commercial vehicle to receive the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s clean-fuel fleet vehicle certification and the California Air Resources Board’s certification as a zero-emission vehicle, the company said.
Stimulus anniversary: Illinois job growth lags
Tribune staff report | On the one-year anniversary of the federal stimulus package, President Barack Obama defended his plan and accused Republicans of scoffing at the stimulus while enjoying its benefits.
“There are those, let’s face it, across the aisle who have tried to score political points by attacking what we did, even as many of them show up at ribbon-cutting ceremonies for projects in their districts,” Obama said, according to a Reuters report.
In Illinois, some jobs have been created. According to Recovery.gov, the
official Web site tracking the stimulus spending, about 11,280 Illinois
jobs were saved or created from February 2009 to September 2009.
Illinois received about $7.75 billion in funds from the stimulus package
during the past year.
