Boeing appears conflicted on 737 decision

Boeing Co. may be leaning toward building a new version of its best-selling 737 narrowbody jet, but industry experts said Tuesday the company seems to be conflicted on the matter and appears increasingly less likely to make a decision in the next few months.

Airbus probed in 2009 Air France crash

European planemaker Airbus was placed under investigation on Thursday over the 2009 crash of a flight between Rio de Janeiro and Paris that killed 228 people, Airbus Chief Executive Thomas Enders said.

Investigators are trying to establish why the Airbus 330 plane, operated by Air France, plunged into the Atlantic during a storm on May 31, 2009, killing passengers from 32 nations, including 72  French citizens. Get the full story »

WTO finds Boeing got illegal subsidies

Plane maker Boeing received unfair subsidies from the U.S. government, according to a World Trade Organization report on Monday, and Boeing and its European rival Airbus immediately quarreled over the scale of the support.

European rival Airbus said the report showed Boeing had received at least $5 billion in illegal subsidies and was only able to launch its 787 Dreamliner with such support. Boeing denied the assertions. Get the full story »

Airbus lands record $16 billion IndiGo order

Airbus on Tuesday announced what it called the biggest jet order in commercial aviation history with a $15.6 billion deal to sell 180 planes to Indian budget carrier IndiGo including the first orders for a revamped model.

Boeing, Airbus net big orders for narrow-body jets

Boeing Co. and Airbus SAS are ringing in the the new year with large aircraft order announcements for their popular narrow-body jets.

Finance company CIT Group Inc. ordered 38 next-generation Boeing 737s worth about $3.2 billion at list price. This is the largest order CIT has placed with Chicago-based Boeing and a sign the commercial lender intends to remain a player in the aircraft leasing business after emerging from bankruptcy last year.
