Aon back to profit in 4Q

Tribune staff report | Chicago insurance broker Aon said it swung to a fourth-quarter profit of $198 million, or 69 cents a share, as revenue rose 9 percent to $2.1 billion. Aon lost $6 million in the same period a year ago.

An industrywide price war has weighed on the bottom line. In addition, Aon has been overhauling its operations for more than a year.

Unitrin declares dividend, appoints director

Tribune staff report | Unitrin Inc. said its board of directors declared a quarterly dividend of 22 cents per share, an increase of 2 cents over the prior quarter. The dividend is payable on March 1 to its shareholders of record as of Feb. 12.

The company also named Julie M. Howard, president and chief operating officer of Navigant Consulting, Inc., a Chicago-based specialty consulting firm, to its board of directors.

Unitrin swings to profit

From the Daily Herald: Chicago-based insurer Unitrin posted its highest quarterly profit since 2007, reporting Tuesday net income of  $66.3 million compared with a $10.6 million loss in the same period a year earlier.
