Baker & McKenzie sued for $600M in ‘looting’

Baker & McKenzie and one of its former partners were sued Monday for $600 million by a Pennsylvania company that alleges the law firm and Martin Weisberg willingly participated in a “looting” of the company.

The suit’s filing is part of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy of Industrial Enterprises of America Inc., which sought protection from creditors in April 2009. Get the full story »

$103M verdict against Chicago’s Baker & McKenzie

A $103 million verdict was handed down Friday in Jones County, Miss., against Chicago-based Baker & McKenzie and one of its attorneys.

Joel Held, a Baker & McKenzie attorney based in Dallas, represented both sides of business relationship that turned sour for one client while the other benefited, according to court documents.

Quinn makes his 3 picks for McPier board

Gov. Pat Quinn on Monday named two attorneys and an organized labor representative to the interim board of the agency that operates McCormick Place and Navy Pier.

The appointees are:

Carmen H. Lonstein, a partner in the Chicago office of Baker & McKenzie, chairs the firm’s financial restructuring, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy practice group in North America. She is on the board of the Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture. Get the full story »
