GM recalls 111K Equinox, Terrain and SRX SUVs

General Motors Co. said Friday that it is recalling about 111,000 Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX small SUVss because the anchor to the seat-belt buckle may fail, which could lead to injury in a crash.

UAW OKs wage cuts at Downstate Mitsubishi plant

United Auto Workers members at Mitsubishi Motors North America’s plant in Downstate Normal ratified a new contract Thursday that includes wage cuts the union has said could determine the fate of the facility and its 1,300 jobs.

Seventy-seven percent of the union workers who voted on the deal approved it, UAW local President Ralph Timan said. He declined further comment, including providing any details about the deal. Get the full story »

NHTSA probes steering complaints in Saturn Ion

Bloomberg News | The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating 2004-2007 Saturn Ion sedans after receiving more than 600 complaints that the cars lost power steering suddenly. Some 384,000 vehicles are involved.

Honda to recall 734K Fits over headlight defect

Honda Motor Co. will recall 734,392 Fit subcompact cars because of defective headlights, according to a report filed Thursday with Japan’s transportation ministry.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism, Honda will recall vehicles produced between November 2001 and October 2007. It’s the ninth-biggest recall since the reporting system began in 1969. Get the full story »

Paris preparing for electric car-sharing program

After its successful bike-sharing program, Paris is moving into higher gear, preparing to lend out 3,000 electric cars across the City of Light to fight air pollution.

Production of Think electric cars starts in Indiana

Think,  the Norwegian electric vehicle maker, has started production of the City at its plant in Elkhart, Ind.

Chrysler, VW recall nearly 600,000 vehicles

Chrysler and Volkswagen announced large recalls Wednesday to address potential accidental air-bag deployments and possible fuel leaks.

Chrysler Group LLC said it was recalling more than 367,000 minivans to address potential accidental air-bag deployments in 2008  Chrysler Town and Countrys and Dodge Grand Caravans. Get the full story »

Chrysler recalls 76K diesel Rams over brake issue

Chrysler is recalling about 76,000 Dodge Ram pickup trucks to fix a power steering issue that could lead to brake pedals that are slow to return after the driver applies them.

Chevy ships first 160 Volts to dealers

Five trucks carrying Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric cars left General Motors Co.’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant Monday, marking the first shipment to dealers after nearly four years of expectation.

Nissan, Mitsubishi strengthen ties in Japan

Nissan Motor Co.  and Mitsubishi Motors Corp.  said Tuesday that they will supply more models to each other and explore  jointly developing vehicles as they look to spark sales in the sagging Japanese market and to meet increasing demand in emerging markets.

The two Japanese carmakers said that Nissan will provide a light van and upper-end sedans to Mitsubishi Motors to broaden its lineup in the domestic market, while Mitsubishi will provide a sport-utility vehicle model to Nissan to enhance its growing SUV segment in the Middle East. Honda to inspect 2011 Accords, CR-Vs for oil leaks

Honda Motor Co. will notify about 1,200 owners of 2011 Accords and CR-Vs of possible engine oil leaks due to a manufacturing problem, a company spokeswoman said Monday.

The automaker also has notified dealers that some 5,000  2011  Accords and 4,300  2011 CR-Vs on dealer lots must be inspected for the part involved, spokeswoman Gina Cappelletti said. Get the full story »

GM seeks to buy out thousands in skilled trades

General Motors Co. said Monday that it was looking to reduce its payroll by several thousand skilled trade workers at 14 U.S. plants in the first quarter of 2011.

GM has offered $60,000 to skilled trades workers who retire or leave the automaker’s payroll by March, said spokesman Chris Lee. The automaker has a “a couple thousand” more skilled trade workers than it needs in the U.S., Lee said. Get the full story »

Toyota recalling 100,000 Sienna minivans

Toyota says it will recall nearly 100,000 Sienna minivans from the 2011 model year to replace a switch bracket on the brake lamp.

The Japanese automaker says a driver’s foot could hit the switch bracket and deform it while applying the parking brake pedal. Toyota says there have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue. Get the full story »
