FatWallet.com’s move to Wisconsin is on

A Rockton, Ill., Internet retailer is moving its headquarters across the border to downtown Beloit, Wis., Friday to escape Illinois’ recently enacted Internet sales tax.

FatWallet says it’s moving 3 miles to Wisconsin because of Illinois’”Amazon.com tax.”  Beloit economic development director Andrew Janke says the Illinois law will cause the Internet shopping site to lose an estimated 30 percent to 40 percent of its annual revenue since Amazon severed ties with it over the tax.

FatWallet is moving into a building owned by the city, a property that was tax exempt as of Jan. 1, relieving FatWallet of real estate taxes this year.
