Discover Financial Services in suburban Riverwoods today named R. Mark Graf as its chief financial officer. The credit card company said Graf, 46, will oversee Discover’s financial operations, including treasury, accounting, investor relations and all financial reporting functions.

He will succeed Roy Guthrie, who is retiring after serving as CFO for six years, and will report directly to David Nelms, Discover’s chairman and chief executive officer.

Graf, the former CFO and treasurer of Fifth Third Bank, came to Discover from New York-based Aquiline Capital Partners, a private equity firm specializing in investments in the financial services industry. Prior to that, he was a partner at Barrett Ellman Stoddard Capital from 2006 to 2008. He was at Fifth Third from 2001 to 2006.
