Warrenville-based truck and bus manufacturer Navistar International Corp. has named retired Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the former top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, to its board.

McChrystal, 56, is a 34-year Army veteran who also was former commander of the Joint Special Operations Command, overseeing military counter-terrorism operations in Iraq. He resigned in June after the publication of an article in Rolling Stone quoted some of his aides as belittling top Obama administration officials.

McChrystal will serve on Navistar’s finance committee. The retired general is also a board member of JetBlue Airways Corp., and teaches a leadership seminar at Yale University.
