Discover signs deal with Puerto Rican bank

Riverwoods-based Discover Financial Services said Monday it has reached a deal with Puerto Rico’s largest commercial bank to expand acceptance of the company’s Discover card in that territory.

Discover Financial signed the deal with Banco Popular de Puerto Rico. Discover said the move will allow card holders to make purchases at 20,000 stores and restaurants on the island, which should expand the appeal of its card among international tourists visiting Puerto Rico.

Shares of Discover rose 57 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $21.18 during afternoon trading.
