Starbucks to add 31-ounce ‘Trenta’ size May 3

Starbucks Corp. will roll out its biggest drink size yet — the 31-ounce ”Trenta” — in all of its U.S. coffee shops by May 3, the company said Sunday

The new size will be available only for iced coffee, iced tea and iced tea lemonade drinks in the United States. The Trenta is 7 ounces larger than Starbucks’ “Venti” cup for iced drinks, which currently is its largest size on offer.

Drinks in the Trenta size will cost 50 cents more than similar Venti-sized iced drinks, the company said.

Seattle-based Starbucks tested the new size in several U.S. markets last year, saying it was responding to customer demand for larger cold beverages.

The Trenta size will debut in 14 states, including Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Hawaii and Arizona, on Jan. 18 and in California on Feb. 1.

The world’s biggest coffee chain said unsweetened drinks in the new size will have fewer than 90 calories and that sweetened versions will have less than 230 calories.

McDonald’s Corp, the world’s biggest fast-food restaurant chain, has taken direct aim at Starbucks with frappes, fruit smoothies and espresso drinks such as lattes and cappuccino. It also has lured customers by selling 32-ounce (946.4 ml) sweet tea drinks for $1 each.

U.S. convenience stores, which have been taking on restaurant chains with an expanded selection of low-cost, quick-serve fare, for years have sold fountain drinks in large sizes, including 32 ounces and 64 ounces (1.9 L).

If it’s 31 ounces, shouldn’t they call it the “trenta-uno”?

If its new and its from Starbucks, it’s gonna cost at least $5 or more.

Go make your own iced coffee, iced tea, lemonade, etc. and save your self ‘trenta’ bucks!!

I don’t even want to begin to imagine what the sugar content of this thing is going to be. Suffice it to say it will be a diabetic’s worst nightmare.

They’ll slap more ice into a bigger cup and in return, ask you for your wallet. Stay healthy, save the planet, get a faucet filter and drink good ol’ H2O from your tap.

Close, jeeper. It would be a trentuno.

I can barely finish a “short”.

You’re correct jim, In Italian you drop the final vowel for one and eight. Plus people aren’t going to remember trentuno, it’s easier just to call it trenta

31 oz. and 50 cents more so they can overflow it with ice. Call it the RipOffa.

Nothing says overindulgence and waste of money than a $6 cup of coffee. Good luck and many more store closing coming soon.

It will be four (4) years in February that I haven’t been in a Starbucks. And that time it was with a group, so it wasn’t 100% voluntary.

$5.00 for a cup of coffee, probably charged on a credit card by the deadbeat buying it who is crying about being foreclosed.

I only go to starbucks if I get a giftcard from somebody. I buy a mug. Their coffee tastes like barbeque charcoal briquettes to me

Everyone’s a critic, aren’t they?!?!? The only thing bitter are the readers!

Bravo, Starbucks!! Can’t wait to get my tub o iced coffee on this summer!!

Just make sure you ask for “no ice.” The cold drinks there tend to be 80% ice cubes unless I say something.

    shouldn’t they call it trentasaurous……
