EBay Inc. says its fourth-quarter revenue rose, as the healthy holiday shopping season bolstered growth in its PayPal online payments business and online marketplace.
The online marketplace operator on Wednesday said its revenue rose nearly 6 percent from a year earlier, to $2.50 billion.
Analysts polled by FactSet Research expected $2.48 billion in revenue.
San Jose-based eBay earned $559.2 million, or 42 cents per share.
This is much lower than the $1.36 billion, or $1.02 per share, reported a year earlier. That quarter included a $1.4 billion gain from the sale of Internet communications business Skype, however.
Excluding one-time items, eBay earned 52 cents per share in the latest quarter, up fromĀ 44 cents per share in 2009.
