CME Group volume up 31% in November

Chicago-based CME Group Inc., operator of derivatives exchanges, reported November volume averaged 14.2 million contracts per day, the highest average since September 2008, with one exception.

The November average was up 24 percent from October, and 31 percent from November 2009. Total volume for this November was 297 million contracts, of which 83 percent traded electronically.

The only month with a higher daily average since September 2008 was May 2010, when the average was 16.8 million contracts.

Record volume was reported in agricultural commodities and metals.
