Target has joined a list of major retailers offering discounts and perks to consumers who use a mobile app called Shopkick. The iPhone app allows users to collect points called “kickbucks” for checking into stores, scanning products and participating in special promotions. The points can be redeemed for gift cards at the retailers and other items such as music downloads.

Other retailers working with Shopkick are Best Buy, Macy’s, American Eagle and Sports Authority. In Target’s case, Chicago is one of seven metropolitan areas where Shopkick is available. The company said it will offer discounts “on a wide range of everyday items” through the app and is the only Shopkick partner that will provide scannable mobile coupons that consumers can redeem at the register.
