Aon Corp.’s Chief Operating Officer Andrew Appel will step down at the end of the year, the world’s largest insurance brokerage said.

Appel, who has worked in the company for the past five years, has been in multiple roles including those in Aon Consulting and Aon Benfield, before moving into his current role, the company said. The insurance brokerage, which has seen its shares trade flat with less than a percentage rise in six months, said it has no plans to fill the position upon Appel’s departure.

Shares of the Chicago, Illinois-based company closed at $41.44 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
