Sex.com, widely considered to be among the most valuable web addresses in the world, was sold for $13 million by its bankrupt owner, Escom LLC.

In court papers filed on Monday, the company said Clover Holdings Ltd was the successful bidder for the domain name. The deal is yet to be approved by the bankruptcy court.

It was not immediately clear what Clover Holdings plans to do with the web address.

In May, Escom reached an agreement with its creditors to auction the sex.com name and hired Sedo.com, a domain name marketplace, to find potential buyers.

Escom reportedly bought the domain name for $14 million in 2006.

The case is In re: Escom LLC, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California, No. 10-13001.

“It was not immediately clear what Clover Holdings plans to do with the web address.”

Something tells me they are not exactly going to use the site to sell Slap-Chops online.

CGull, I think they mean that it is possible Clover Holdings may sell it to someone else — maybe someone who doesn’t want to be identified.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it illegal in most places to sell sex?

Hmmm. They bought it for $14 mil in 2006 and sold it for $13.mil in 2010.

I guess that means sex is worth 7% less now than it was 4 years ago. Ah well, age will tell
