Pfizer Inc. is recalling two more lots of its widely-used Lipitor cholesterol drug after chemicals from wooden pallets contaminated some bottles with an “uncharacteristic odor.”

The drugmaker said Friday that customer reports about the odor prompted the latest recall, which affects about 38,000 bottles. Pfizer recalled other lots of its flagship drug in August and October.

Lipitor, the world’s top-selling prescription drug, is expected to see more than $12.1 billion in 2010 global sales, according to Thomson Reuters data, before facing generic competition in 2011.
