General Motors Co. has announced plans to spend $190 million to build a new Cadillac small car at its Lansing Grand River plant.

The automaker said Thursday it will add 600 jobs and a second shift to produce the new vehicle in the city about 80 miles west-northwest of Detroit.

New GM CEO Dan Akerson is scheduled to make the announcement Thursday at the plant.

Lansing Grand River was built in 2001 and is GM’s second-newest U.S. assembly plant. It makes Cadillac CTS and STS as well as their V-Series performance versions.
