Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is optimistic about demand for toys this holiday season and will stay “absolutely committed” to win on price in the segment, the world’s largest retailer told Reuters.
“In toys this year, we will be just as competitive on price as we have always been,” Laura Phillips, Wal-Mart’s vice president of toys said in an interview.
The news comes a month after the company signaled a move away from steep short-term price cuts that have hurt its margins.
Last year, the retailer offered more than 100 toys, including Barbie dolls and board games, for $10 each to win customers in the holiday shopping season.
The top discount chain is also expanding its toy assortment, carrying a larger inventory and working to improve the layout of its toy aisles to woo shoppers.
