Facebook, the world’s No. 1 Internet social network, experienced technical difficulties Thursday that made its website slow or inaccessible to some of its 500 million users.

A separate Facebook feature that is integrated into other websites, allowing visitors to “like” particular articles or videos, also appeared to be affected by the problem, according to media reports.

Facebook would not say what caused the disruption, saying in a statement that the company was experiencing “some site issues causing Facebook to be slow or unavailable to some users.”

The company said it was working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

I would like to know if there is an ETA on this issue. One source stated that this was a third party issue. If that is the case, why are there so many users that are affected by this outage? I live in Michigan, other users in Chicago, Illinois, are affected also. If you are refering to a third party as an ISP, how can an ISP span over such a large WAN when usually the area is broken up into a smaller circumference, or rather, regioinal area?
