Anthropologie is opening a store at 111 E. Chicago Ave., the former site of the American Girl store just west of Michigan Avenue.

Anthropologie, a higher-end chain  owned by Urban Outfitters Inc., will close its store at 1120 N. State St. in late October, an employee said, also confirming that they’d move into bigger space in the old American Girl location.

The retailer has announced the move on its Twitter page.

A company spokesperson couldn’t be reached for immediate comment on how much space it would take in the old American Girl store or when  it would open.

American Girl vacated the space when it  moved to Water Tower Place in 2008.
