McDonald’s refunding $3 per ‘Shrek’ glass

Posted June 9, 2010 at 5:43 a.m.

From the New York Times | McDonald’s Corp. is offering $3 refunds to customers who bought “Shrek” drinking glasses, the promotional items recalled last week because they’re tainted with cadmium.

Starting today, customers can fill out a refund slip and return the glassware to any McDonald’s restaurant, the Oak Brook-based company said. The glasses sold for $1.99 with a food purchase and $2.49 without.

Then the store you called doesnt know what they are doing….the corporate stores have TONS of messages going thru their network communicating with their managers about what to do. They are soooo on top of this.

Jessica, if they are “sooooo on top of this” they wouldn’t have sold the poison glasses to begin with.

Is there somewhere you can print off a refund app?

They didn’t make the glasses. A mistake was made and they are owning it. Sounds reasonable. Don’t we have bigger issues to worry about?

Save these glasses. They will have a higher collector’s value once the majority have been destroyed.

I agree, keep the glasses, they’ll be valuable in time. Just don’t drink out of them ;)

If you are keeping the glasses as a collector’s item they are fine. They just shouldn’t be used for drinking. And it is just a precaution! Because of the American way of sueing over every little thing!

My friend told me to wash the glasses in warm water and then lick them clean with my tongue.

The glasses actually aren’t toxic at all, they volunatarly recalled them because there was question about them. But they have been tested multiple times, and they are fine. And Nancy, they may have said that before they recieved word from corporate about the $3 refund.. because they did not decide to do that until a couple of days after the recal started.

I’m keeping mine, nothing like a bit of cadmium laced tea to wash down some salty old paint chips.

What about the cups from the first series? Are they ok?

I would keep them. Most people will return them. They may be toxic, but they will be collectors items some day in the distant future because most people will get rid of them. No one will want to drink out of them anyway for fear of ruining their value.

This came from Mc D’s website “The glassware is being voluntarily recalled as a precautionary measure. However, the CPSC has said the glassware is not toxic. In light of the CPSC’s evolving assessment of standards for cadmium in consumer products, McDonald’s determined in an abundance of caution that a voluntary recall of the Shrek Forever After™ glassware is appropriate” So there you go. it also says you can take your glasses to ANY Mc D store for a $3 refund!

I blame the cheap contracts made and endorsed by our country’s corporations supporting outsourcing… remember the deadly infant formula from China? yeah… bring the jobs back to America! Otherwise, yes, I would keep the glasses and just let someone I don’t like drink out of them. ;)

I didn’t buy any of these new shrek glasses, but I bought one for my granddaughter when they were out a few years back from Mc Donald’s. How do I know if that glass is safe to use?

I licked all the paint off my glass so I can drink from it! smart huh? ooooooooh my stomach!

I went out of my way to take a glass to the McDonald’s in the Merchandise Mart on Thursday after the announcement came out and the manager on duty refused to take the glass and directed me to an 800 number to call. I was very disappointed after taking the time to drag the glass over there. So much for corporate communications and customer service.
