I like the idea that the iPhone will be available on a carrier other than AT&T….i truly dislike AT&T intensely (that sounds polite doesnt it?) But i was hoping for Verizon since i have heard from many friends around the country that Verizon is the best and so many have trouble with t-mobile.

You need these phones to be an open platform if possible. And that means supporting the frequencies used by different phone companies. Tmobile uses an oddball frequency for 3G — 1700MHz. So if we’re going to have a phone that will work on all North American GSM/3G networks, it needs to support 1700 and also the 800 and 1900 3G networks used by AT&T and the Canadian carriers. If the phone ends up supporting only one frequency or the other, then you’re stuck with a particular carrier as long as you have the phone.
Verizon and Sprint with their CDMA networks pose yet another challenge. But if they’re going to start on TMobile, at least have it so that the phone will support more than just TMobile’s non-standard frequency for 3G.
